Advancing Responsible AI in Healthcare with CHAI

The healthcare industry is buzzing with talk about AI. Beyond the buzz, how do we ensure that building, deploying and adopting AI is safe, fair, and effective in healthcare?

Merage Ghane, Director of Responsible AI at the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI), sheds light on this challenge. With her background in behavioral design and computational neuroscience, Ghane joined PAC for an ‘On the Record / Off the Record’ conversation about how CHAI is tackling various AI governance challenges in healthcare.

  • Addressing the needs and priorities of multiple stakeholders, including ensuring patient safety, decreasing burden on physicians, and providing guidance for developers.

  • Testing and evaluation, which is essential throughout development, from pre-deployment testing to post-deployment measurement of impact and value.

  • Designing and validating targeted AI solutions by convening diverse stakeholders to discuss specific use cases, then building consensus and driving adoption.

  • Striking the right balance between rapid AI innovation and robust AI safeguards.
